Turtles

Once, while looking for a house, we encountered a large turtle in the seller’s back yard. We later learned that its name was Methuselah. Turtles live a long time depending on the type of turtle and their environment. Some pets can live 100 years, while turtles in the wild can survive up to 150 years, except for those sea turtles that encounter human interference like nets and pollution. As I grow older I find myself slowing down. Most days don’t demand too much of me, but when the outside world encroaches and I can’t spend enough time in nature, my responses are especially sluggish – like being trapped in a net I can’t escape. Soon all the stresses of civilized life will disappear for me. I don’t want to live 150 years anyway.
